Happy birthday! Love that you are celebrating it your way!

Happy Birthday, Delia! Wise words here. No formulas to any of this! I love how you're listening to yourself. I did decade parties with friends for 30, 40, 50, and 60. For my 70th, I was too scared to go to a restaurant because of Covid/flu but I had a picnic with a good friend and then Zoomed with my family (scattered all over the place) at night.

LOVE picnic idea plus Zoom. We need to make it work when circumstances warrant. I think of your book as part of your 70th celebration! Can’t wait to read it!

In fact the book opens and closes with scenes related to my birthday party. Can't wait to share it!

And don’t forget another intimate dinner party coming soon (we could take you out instead you know!). Think about it.

Ah yes! The party never stops and I've not forgotten! No need to take me out sister. I will enjoy cooking for our intimate soiree. xx

Thanks for the reminder to do what suits each of us! When I turned 70, I decided I didn’t want a party. Instead, my daughter came to town, we visited a favorite museum of mine, then she took me to the fanciest place in town for afternoon tea. Exactly what fit me!

Wonderful Susan. Sounds perfect! I have also done museums on occasion. They feel extra-special on birthdays, don't they?

Happy birthday! I turn 60 this month too! Celebrating by having two birthdays (flying back in time from Australia the night of my birthday to Hawaii to do another birthday!)

ooo I like this Jo-two birthdays on two continents. You have set the bar high. Enjoy and welcome to 60! It rocks!

My birthday is close to Christmas, and I always shy away from celebrating and adding one more thing to friends' and family's calendars. For my 40th, however, a dear friend couple who had been walking with me through some personal growth, hosted a dinner party for me with a few other couples who had been part of my life and growth. After dinner, they surprised me with a journal where they had printed out emails and collected letters and cards from so many people I have known (including some family) with messages of encouragement and love. I sobbed. Even my dad wrote about the day I was born. It is still one of my most treasured gifts ever! (My love languages are gifts and words - so this was a double whammy! lol). My last milestone birthday I intentionally planned the day with my best friend (coffee, shopping, lunch) and then dinner with my husband and children. I used to think ME having a say in my own birthday would make it less fun - but that is absolutely NOT the case. I love that you are celebrating more than once! I may use that for my next milestone and move some of the celebration into the next year AFTER the holidays!

Oh Wendy what a lovely gift! I once contributed to something similar although it was a photo album with little snippets/notes from people in this person’s life across the decades. I must say that I fully commisserate with a December birthday-my son was born on the 24th and that has always proved a difficult day to make just about him. Thanks for sharing!

Happy Birthday, Delia! I recently stumbled upon your newsletter through Threads. I turned 30 last year, which was overshadowed by my partner's job loss, so it fell kind of flat. I'm going to meditate on the archival content you linked in this issue -- I have a lot of pondering to do as I think about what I want to achieve over the next 70 years. :)

Ha! Welcome Ricky! You have plenty of time…trust me!! Delighted you are here and pondering…
